About

Swan is a distinct vocalist and songwriter whose multifaceted voice captures an indelible sense of emotional depth. Dreamlike and ferociously tangible, her music pervades time and has earned her a reputation as a gifted singer, spellbinding performer and skilled songsmith.

Since 2004 she has worked within the San Francisco Bay Area, Los Angeles and West Coast underground music scenes, writing, recording, and performing her own original music as well as joining forces with many independent producers and bands such as Eskmo, The Glitch Mob, Beats Antique, R/D, ARK, Shaggy Manatee, Arjan MacNamara, Antler and Feldt to write songs that have been released on such labels as Warp Records, Glass Air, Quaketrap, and Tycho.

With the relevance that her voice carries through several genres, Swan comfortably challenges categorization. She is presently working on projects that extend into the realms of indie-electronic, indie-folk and shoegaze, though over the years she has been heavily influenced by the blues, world music, psychedelic rock, post-punk, avant-garde and jazz.

In 2011 Swan teamed up with producer R/D on a project called Pair Of Arrows. Their debut track is scheduled for release in early January 2012, while they expect to be completing the rest of the album and touring by late summer. Also on the forefront of Swan’s 2012 lineup is Birdseye, a sparkling indie-folk band, rich with compelling harmonies, inventive songwriting and layered arrangement. Birdseye is fronted by Swan on vocals/keys/percussion and her writing partner David Peter Mellish on vocals/guitar, who are joined by cello, bass and percussion. They spent 2011 playing festivals and venues, and continue to write and record their debut material.

Swan continues to team up with innovative producers and musicians to create music that she finds to be “true expressions of the heart and this human experience. I love to move to and be moved by music. At the most inspired moments, it seems like the music has already been written, and I’m just trying to get it right and get it out. The best music to me makes me feel like the life I am living is the best film I could ever dream up with the most perfect score, and that is what I strive to create.”
